Expedition and Outdoor Leadership Certificate

Who Should Attend

The Certificate is a requirement for those training or supervising expeditions. The certificate is valid for 5 years, and can be renewed by attending a renewal course.

Course Description

The Brigade in England and Wales offers an Assessment Weekend for the Expedition and Outdoor Leadership Scheme. This enables candidates the opportunity to achieve either Standard or Advanced status if they successfully pass the required standard in a range of key competences. STANDARD: for those leaders training and supervising expeditions within the Brigade's Award Scheme (i.e., up to Queen's Badge or DEA Silver Award standards in low level / normal country); ADVANCED: for those leaders training and supervising expeditions to DEA Gold Award standards (i.e., in wild country)

Details: (Basic, Standard and Advanced levels) is held annually in the Peak District, based in Edale. Dates are 1st to 3rd June.

Details: Cost: Likely to be around £40 Details: This weekend, running from 8pm on Friday to 3.30pm on Sunday, is open to all BB leaders, and is specifically designed for those who wish to be assessed for the E+OL Certificate at Basic or Standard level. (This covers terrain up to and including DofE Silver level, but not Wild Country, for which an Advanced Certificate is required.) Accommodation is by camping, with tents to be provided by participants. The programme includes elements of training, as well as a continuous assessment throughout the weekend, and it covers all the elements of the Certificate. (See Appendix G on P123 of the BB Expedition Manual - the latest Version 13.0 is available to download from the BB Leaders' website). What is being assessed is the participant's ability at the end of the weekend, not necessarily their prior knowledge!

Details: The Boys' Brigade Mountaineering Club is now able to offer BB Companies / Battalions / Districts, courses in both 'Training' and 'Assessment - STANDARD & ADVANCED' on a 'On Demand' basis, either at our usual training base 'The Barn' in the Lake District for TRAINING or for ASSESSMENT delivering a course based in The Peak District. We may also be able to deliver either of these courses at other venues, possibly even locally to you (subject to suitability of location and venue).
